SCHUMAKER CAMPGROUND NOW OPEN

by Forest Service on August 3, 2010

The Darby Ranger District has announced that Schumaker Campground located at the end of Lost Horse Road (road 429) near Twin Lakes, is now open to the public following reconstruction improvements to trailheads and roads.

Improvements include new fire rings, picnic tables, new outhouses, and resurfacing of the road. Additional work is also being done within the upper Lost Horse drainage including improving the Twin Lakes, Bailey Lake, Bear Creek, and Bear Creek Pass trailheads and improving the road from Lost Horse cabin to Twin Lakes.

Some of the roadwork is still being finished from the cabin to Twin Lakes. Crews are currently in the process of grading the road and five dump trucks are hauling gravel. The public is asked to drive slowly and use extreme caution in the construction areas as the road is narrow road with blind corners. There may also be some short delays while the gravel is getting dumped.

For more information contact Erica Strayer, Darby Ranger District at (406) 821-4298.
