Schumaker Campground Closed for Reconstruction

by Forest Service on July 14, 2010

The Darby Ranger District is temporarily closing Schumaker Campground, located at the end of Lost Horse Road (Forest Service Road 429) near Twin Lakes, for reconstruction improvements to this and nearby trailheads and roads.

Dump trucks and other heavy equipment have begun using the Lost Horse Road to reach the work sites. This road is narrow with blind corners and the public is asked to use extreme caution.

There may also be short delays while crews work on the Lost Horse Road and Twin Lakes Road (Forest Service Road 5605).

This improvement project for Schumaker Campground will involve replacing fire rings, picnic tables, installation of new outhouses and resurfacing the road.

Additional work within the upper Lost Horse drainage includes improving the Twin Lakes, Bailey Lake, Bear Creek, and Bear Creek Pass trailheads. There will also be work to improve the road from Lost Horse Cabin to Twin Lakes.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
