Montana Mule Deer Hunting Districts

Montana Mule Deer Hunting District 270

East Fork Bitterroot:

District 270 is one of the great “Trophy Mule Deer” areas in the world. This is a highly sought after tag. There are generally about 100 antlered buck tags available. Draw success runs less than 2%. For those fortunate hunters who draw a tag there is a real good chance to harvest the buck of a lifetime.

Montana Mule Deer Hunting District 261

East Bitterroot:

District 261 offers close to a 5% chance to draw a antlered Mule Deer buck tag. There are also some antlerless tags available certain years. In 2008, 75 tags were issued. While not on par with District 270 as a trophy area, 261 does hold some boomer bucks. and for the dedicated hunter willing to put in significant time the draw statistics are far better.

Montana Mule Deer Hunting District 204

North Sapphire:

District 204 is usually a 100% draw district. Anterless tags are limited. A hunter would have to really do their homework to harvest a “trophy mule deer” out oof this district.

Bitterroot-Clark Fork Archery District:

There are not currently any Mule Deer tags in District 260.

Montana Mule Deer Hunting District 250

West Fork Bitterroot:

I love District 250. This is usually a 100% draw but offers a hunter a reasonable chance to harvest a real trophy. Wolves are plentiful in this area and it will be interesting to observe the effect on wildlife. In the 2007 season Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks reduced the cow elk harvest from 250 to 50 because of wolf depravition. I have spent extensive time in this area and know first hand that wolves are far, far beyond estimated numbers.
