Darby
Darby originated when James Darby built a cabin and started a post office. Later, he added a grocery and general store, as people came to get their mail and needed other supplies. Located at the southern end of the Bitterroot Valley, Darby lies in a narrow valley between the Sapphire Mountains to the east and the Bitterroot Mountains to the west.
Darby is a quaint little town that may be best known for the late July festival and logging competition, “Darby Logger Days”. Each spring the Townsend Ranch also holds a mounted cowboy shooting competition that is an event I highly recommend.
